JEJU MOJAK BENCH

OVERVIEW.  락앤락과 제주올레의 자원 순환을 위한 ‘러브 포 플래닛 (Love for Planet)’ 캠페인의 일환으로 제주의 주민과 여행객들에게 작은 쉼터를 제공하고 자원 순환의 의미를 전달하기 위해 업사이클링 벤치를 디자인하였습니다. 벤치의 이름인 ‘모작’은 ‘매듭’의 제주도 방언입니다. 서로 얽힌 매듭처럼 자연, 사람, 사물 서로 다른 것들이 자연스럽게 하나로 얽혀 이어지며 연결되어 있음을 의미하며, 형태적으로도 폐플라스틱을 재활용 만든 패널을 제주의 돌무더기에 묶어 고정하는 방식은 새로운 구조물의 설치없이 기존의 풍경을 보존하면서 편안한 휴식처를 만들어줍니다.

As part of the 'Love for Planet' campaign - a collaboration between Lock & Lock and Jeju Olle for resource circulation, VJO has designed upcycled benches to provide a small convenient spot for the residents and tourists and to convey the significance of sustainability. The name of the bench, "Mojak," is a Jeju dialect word meaning "knot." It signifies the interconnectedness of nature, people, and objects, similar to intertwined knots, where different elements naturally come together and link to one another. In terms of its design, the bench incorporates recycled plastic panels that are tied and secured to Jeju's rocky terrain, without the need for installing new structures. This allows the creation of comfortable places to relax while preserving the existing landscape.
