Local Tourism Center Renovation

OVERVIEW.
기존 건물은 건물과 광장 주변의 건축들이 내부와 외부가 단절된 구조로 설계되어 있어, 광장에서 내부 활동이 보이지 않고, 내부에서도 광장의 상황을 인지할 수 없는 현황이었습니다. 이 시각적 단절은 사람의 흐름을 막고, 실제 유동인구가 있음에도 공간 전체가 적막하게 느껴지는 원인이 되고 있습니다. 주변 조망과도 충분한 시각적 연계가 형성되지 못하고, 주민의 체류를 이끌어내지 못하는 상태입니다.  주민과 관광객 그리고 센터간의 소통이 살아나도록 개방적 건축 개편이 필요했습니다.

The existing building, along with the structures surrounding the plaza, was designed in a way that separated the interior from the exterior. As a result, activities inside the center were not visible from the plaza, and people inside could not perceive what was happening outside.
This visual disconnection blocked the natural flow of people, making the entire space feel quiet and inert despite the presence of foot traffic.

The building also failed to establish sufficient visual connections to its surroundings, resulting in a space that did not encourage residents to stay or engage. To revitalize communication between residents, visitors, and the center itself, an open and transparent architectural reconfiguration was essential.

CENTER RENOVATION.
베리준오는 버드나무의 유연한 선을 건축적 제스처로 해석해, 빛과 물결, 바람의 흐름이 교차하는 유선형 곡면으로 구성했습니다. 파사드는 단순한 외피가 아니라, 자연의 움직임을 머금은 ‘살아있는 표면’으로 작동합니다. 나무의 가지가 하늘과 땅을 이어주듯, 센터의 외관은 광장과, 데크, 그리고 사람의 시선을 자연스럽게 연결하며 내부와 외부의 경계를 온화하게 녹여냅니다.

또한 이곳의 공간은 사람들이 잠시 머물며 쉬어갈 수 있는 열린 휴식의 장으로 계획되었습니다. 마치 마을의 당산나무처럼 방문객을 맞이하고, 지역민과 여행자가 함께 머물며 교류하는 상징적 쉼터로 기능합니다.

VERY JOON OH interpreted the graceful lines of a willow tree as an architectural gesture, shaping the building with fluid, curvilinear surfaces where light, ripples, and wind intersect.
The façade functions not as a simple outer shell but as a living surface that embodies the movement of nature.

Just as branches connect the sky and the earth, the building’s exterior softly links the plaza, the deck, and the flow of people’s sightlines, gently dissolving the boundary between inside and outside.
This space is designed as an open place of rest where visitors can pause and stay. Like the village’s guardian tree, it welcomes those who pass by and serves as a symbolic shelter where residents and travelers can gather and connect.

CENTER RENOVATION 3F.
3F 카페공간은 자연을 가장 가까이에서 느낄 수 있는 감성적 쉼터이자 음악형 라운지입니다. 건물의 외형을 자연스럽게 따른 유선형 벽체와 열린 조망은 실내에서도 외부 풍경이 자연스럽게 이어지도록 합니다. 이곳은 단순한 카페를 넘어, 음악과 휴식, 조망이 하나의 리듬으로 어우러지는 감각적 체험 공간으로 설계되었습니다. 낮에는 햇빛과 바람이, 밤에는 음악과 조명이 공간의 분위기를 바꾸며 시간에 따라 다른 표정을 만들어냅니다.





CENTER RENOVATION 3F-4F Stairs.
나선형 목재 계단은 “당산나무의 줄기” 를 상징합니다. 카페 공간과 전망대를 연결하며 (3층 실내와 4층 조망 테라스) 자연의 선을 건축으로 번역한 구조를 가지고 있습니다. 버드나무의 유연한 곡선, 흐르는 가지, 하늘로 뻗는 수직성을 건축적 조형으로 변환하였으며 나무의 줄기가 하늘로 올라가는 듯한 모습은 4층 조망 테라스로 향하는 기대감을 심어줍니다.

The 3rd-floor café is an emotional retreat and a music-lounge space where nature can be felt at its closest.
The curvilinear walls, shaped in harmony with the building’s natural form, and the open views allow the exterior landscape to flow seamlessly into the interior.

This is more than a simple café—it is designed as a sensory environment where music, rest, and scenery blend into a single rhythm.
During the day, sunlight and wind shape the atmosphere; at night, music and lighting transform the space, giving it a different expression with each passing hour.


The spiral wooden staircase symbolizes the trunk of the guardian tree.
Connecting the café and the rooftop observatory (the 3rd-floor interior and the 4th-floor viewing deck), it embodies a structural translation of nature’s lines into architecture.

The staircase reinterprets the willow’s gentle curves, flowing branches, and upward verticality into sculptural form. Its upward movement—resembling a tree trunk reaching toward the sky—builds a sense of anticipation as visitors ascend to the 4th-floor viewing terrace.

CENTER RENOVATION 4F.
4층 옥상은 인근 풍경을 한눈에 조망할 수 있는 360도 수평 데크형 전망정원으로 설계되었습니다.
전망정원에서는 인근 조경과 주변 산세, 하천, 들녘이 한눈에 펼쳐지며, 낮에는 빛과 바람, 밤에는 조명과 음악이 어우러져 자연의 시간과 감각을 함께 체험하는 공간으로 완성됩니다.

The 4th-floor rooftop is designed as a 360-degree horizontal deck garden that offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

From this vantage point, the nearby greenery, mountain ridges, river, and fields unfold at a glance.
During the day, light and wind shape the atmosphere; at night, lighting and music come together to create a space where visitors can experience the passage of nature and its sensory rhythms.
